Floor Plan

The sign is typical of New York State Highway Department historical markers placed throughout the early to mid-20th century. It is known to have been present by the time of the birthplace's second restoration in 1954. This photo depicts the sign's most recent paint job. The post and border were painted green and the lettering gilded in lustrous gold leaf by Jeff Ingersoll, a restoration contractor descended from Robert Ingersoll's brother Ebenezer.
